Japan 1553

Samurai,  A new venture for this old wargamer.

   As I like the Pendraken 10mm figure ranges. Decided to try out a couple of new eras. First up was feudal Japan and the Samurai.

Having  painted up about 200 figures It was decided last weekend to fight a small tabletop battle with them.. Hence we have the following report;

Battle of Nashinokidaro ;

     It is July 1553 and there has been a hot summer leading to an extended drought. This has led to a food deficiency in this area of Japan.  That is controlled by the 'Hojo' clan. Its leader Ujitsuna.

   Learning that his neighbors to the north West have ample food supplies from a conservative trading policy. He decides to attack them to save his people from a forseeable famine.

   Calling on his four supportive clans of Okiyama, Kosaka, Suibaru and
Sanada Nobutsuna. A force of 3,000 men is assembled and he commences the food gathering campaign.

   On July 7th the lead elements of the Hojo invasion force nearing the village of Nashinokidaro come face to face with a small enemy force consisting of the Nakajo and Yamagata clans of around 1,700 men under the banner of Tekeda Nobatura.

    Feeling victory in his grasp. Ujitsuna commits his lead elements of the Okiyama and Sanada to battle. Instead of waiting for the clans of Lord Kosaka and Suibara to arrive and join him.

    The outcome of this action would not favour the agressor.   As Lord Takeda Katsuyori was advancing with his clansmen to the aid of Lord Yamagata and Lord Nakajo.

   The end of Lord Sanada Nobutsuna and the remains of his clansmen was in sight.

    An overveiw of the engagement below;.

My newest project: Samurai in 10mm

For some while now. I have been wargaming with a computer aided miniature gaming system; Computer Strategies, "Great Powers".

This is a system that is purported to cover the period from 1820 through to 1900. In the European theatre of conflict.

It is a fully intergrated system for this time frame in history. With the ability to game land and or naval at any time.

Also included within its system is a campaign and solo gaming modules.

Although I mentioned above that the system was originally developed for the European conflicts between 1820 & 1900.

With friends, we have very successfully used it to game the Mexican-American war, Russo- Japanese naval war of 1904-05 and one of my favorite periods; The 7 Years War. with minor in house changes.

Onto my newest project: Feudal Japan. The reign of the Samurai in a scale of 10mm.

The majority of the figures used are Pendraken miniatures with a few minifigs thrown in for good measure
